Hello, I am Shona Dion,

I use she/her pronouns.  I live on the unceded and traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) speaking peoples, known as the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Kosapsum) First Nations.

I am a labour activist and community builder. I was raised in a trade union home and I am a 28 year union member.

I am a settler, born on the traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations.

I am first generation Canadian on my mother’s side, my mother having immigrated to Canada from Scotland in the 1950’s. On my father’s side, my family came to Canada from France in the 1700’s.

I am a mother, spouse of 25 years, and a sibling.  I moved to Victoria from Vancouver with my family in 2013. 

I belong to the North Jubilee Neighbourhood Association and love getting to know my neighbours and spending time in the Spirit Garden between Newton St. and Kings Rd.

One of my main joys is photography.  I shoot for my own curiosity. I donate my lens to community actions. I am a creative being.

I fully support equity, diversity and inclusion as integral elements to community building.  Just as in nature, diversity makes us more resilient and empathetic.  I believe in the power of collective action and that everyday citizen do have the power to bring about positive change that benefits all of humanity and the natural world.  I believe in civic responsibility and participating in democratic systems.
